Artwork Produced for Projection Mapping Project.

Here are some of the concepts I drew up for our 'out of this world' themed Projection Mapping Show for NUCA. The term 'Re-volution' is to suggest the evolutionary state of these underwater creatures has been 're-defined'.

Original Drawings:

Our team affectionately named the above as "Roboctopus"

This image was create in GIMP 2.0, I scanned in the original sketch and adjusted the image so that I could use the sketch outline to colour in the fish - this made the process a lot quicker. The rough metal texture used is from

I wanted the light blue channels on the fish to have a glow to them, suggesting an 'other worldly' power source. I am reasonably happy with this concept and would have liked more time to spend re-drawing and tweaking the design - however the cyber-fish effect is achieved overall I believe.

New Project, New Work Philosophy

No more procrastinating and worrying about how to balance my work. I will make myself a strict time line of 'mini deadlines' in order to properly achieve my potential in each project. Last 3 projects have been badly organised, un-evenly focused on and subsequently a disappointment to myself.

The 3D projection mapping project is a really interesting one. I have been looking into how we can include audience participation with our projection and found this interesting use of a microphone.

The noise created by a member of the audience into the microphone makes the animation on the building move, and people seem to find it fascinating!

This is another very interesting use of projection mapping to bridge the gap between reality and virtual. Something I have a strong personal interest in. An accelerometer device is used like a wii remote in order to control the player in game.

Robin Silcock

I am a Second Year Games Art and Design student at Norwich University of the Arts. After exploration of a number of roles in my first year, I am now looking to graduate as a 3D Artist with applicable skills in Maya, Mudbox, ZBrush and Photoshop. I understand that my skills in this field are not there yet - but I aim to achieve this goal through consistently working through the programs in my University and Personal Projects. I love to be busy - I have always had a lot of things on my plate since the age of 7 where I successfully balanced school with Ballet, Tap, Horse-Riding, French, Piano and Singing Lessons! In the same fashion, my university schedule is just as hectic and varied; I am a Peer Mentor to first year students, Student Rep for Second Year, and President of the Enterprise Society. Like I said, I love to be busy! I am a Games Hippie - so to speak - I believe that Games if designed and harnessed in the right way, will be able to help solve many of the global issues we have today - even if it starts off in a small way. Just look at the positive effects that Facebook and Twitter have already had... When navigating my blog;
  • Works in Progress - This section is a constantly running account of all my current projects - personal and for university. It will contain reference images and website links and sometimes less than coherent posts, so be prepared!
  • Finished Pieces - This is where you will find my more polished artwork. Looking for help with Maya? Check out the posts tagged "Maya How-To's"
